The kickoff for Balza y Cia., which would later become Cantabria S.A., was given by Don Manuel Balza, a Basque immigrant from Santander, Spain; Arriving in Argentina around 1927, he began to work in the Warehouse business in three traditional corners of our Federal Capital, Venezuela and Tacuarí (Monserrat neighborhood), Cabildo and Olazabal (Belgrano neighborhood) and Talcahuano and Santa Fe ( North Quarter). The mountainous and small-town air of Santander forced this gentleman to undertake his journey towards the interior of the province of Buenos Aires; Arriving in the year 1939 to the Town of Napaleofú, being such the magnitude of the commercial operations that the Banco de la Nación Argentina names this House as one of its correspondents; Finally, in 1954, the House and its people would move to Licenciado Matienzo, settling here permanently.

In this small town in the southeast of Buenos Aires, the Company is forging its own path. The development of the cereal activity found its commercial leader in Ángel Balza (Don Manuel’s eldest son). He himself found support and support in his brothers, as well as in the rest of the family. “Angelito” and his brothers were cultivating the different facets of the granary trade, reaping a number of relationships; Thanks to this activity, they were always surrounded by valued friends.

The desire to grow and progress in the volume of operations motivated them to settle in other locations such as Lobería and Napaleofú. Likewise, to create a network of commercial agents in other areas outside the area of influence, thus managing to overcome provincial barriers and generate business throughout the country. Towards the end of the 1990s, the third generation began to join the firm, achieving a coordinated interaction, the result of which, apart from the different points of view that the various formations may have, was a consolidated block with the same values and principles in pursuit of the same end: “honesty, transparency, seriousness and commitment in each and every one of the acts carried out”.
